Extra English and Extra Art: Bio of Cameron Townsend
Guess who this guy is:
It's Cameron Townsend!
William Cameron Townsend was born on July 9, 1896. He served as an American missionary under the Central American Mission and the Bible home of Los Angeles. His goal was to preach the Bible and give good education to people all over the world in their own language, especially in rural countries. In doing so, Mr. Townsend founded the Wycliffe Bible Translators, the SIL, and the JAARS. He has also, along with his foundations, received many awards including the Nobel Peace Prize, UNESCO, and the Ramon Magsaysay Award. His written works include, "One Thousand Tongues to go," (which has also been made into a documentary movie) "Tolo, the Volcano's son," and has helped in the translation of many Bibles into several languages. He died on April 23, 1982. But God's work through Townsend still goes on as a blessing to the entire world.
