Bible & Art: Run the Race - Train Yourself to be Godly
"Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord."
Hebrews 12:14
"For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love."
2 Peter 1:5-7
We should be committed to doing what is righteous and Godly whenever we have the opportunity to do so. Make it your goal to do it all the time.
2. Learning from a Skilled Teacher
Of course, we cannot do this without a guide. And our guide is the Holy Spirit! Look at my drawing. Do you see the blue guy in flames? That to me is a picture of the Holy Spirit encouraging us to persevere in this race of life, even amidst haters or the time when we stumble, he is always faithful.
3. Practice, Practice, and More Practice!
We're not perfect for sure, but we can always do our best and that's called "authenticity." And remember that it's not "practice makes perfect," it's "good practice that makes authentic."
4. Use the Word of God!
"Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near."
Revelation 1:3
Joining Bible studies, memorizing verses, learning the Bible with your family is a great way to use the Word of God. When I say "use," I don't mean that you will use the Bible to justify yourself when you sin or make an escape. I mean that you learn, repent, and understand what is in God's Word.
"The wise store up knowledge,
but the mouth of a fool invites ruin."Proverbs 10:14
5. The Nature of Training
When you read the Bible, do you feel joyful? Are you glad for the Words that God gives you today? Or do you read it grudgingly, bitter because of life's circumstances? Or bored with the whole thing? When you feel like this, pray to God that he will speak to your heart and admit humbly about the bad thing that's been pricking your conscience. We should be humble and content when we train ourselves up into the way we should go.
May the Lord bless your heart!
